Here are 5 tips for staying motivated with your dance goals in the new year:
- Celebrate small victories:
Change doesn’t happen overnight – make sure you celebrate your little successes along the way that help you get to your long term goals. For example – your splits won’t appear overnight. But make sure to celebrate when you notice a bit of small change, or you remember to stretch everyday for a week.
- Stay committed:
The more committed you are to your goals – the easier it will be to stay motivated for them. If you can keep your eye on the prize, it will be hard to forget what you’re working for!
- Look for feedback from your teachers:
Ask your teachers for tips and tricks to help you with your goals – that’s what we’re here for! It’s not only our job – but we LOVE helping our dancers achieve their goals. It’s what makes our job rewarding. So never be afraid to ask your teacher to help you along your way.
- Find someone/something that inspires you:
Whether it’s a fellow dancer in your studio, or a dancer out in media, find one that inspires you to keep going and achieve what you’re going for!
- Set clear and specific goals:
If you’re too broad with your goals – for example: “get better at jumps” – that makes it more difficult to achieve, and then therefore becomes more frustrating and you will become less motivated to make it happen. Set a more specific goal like: “get more height in my grand jété jumps” to be able to watch your progress more easily.
